With this being the first Monday of December, I tried to think of a good quote from a Christmas movie. I’ve kind of struggled accepting the fact that it is, yet again, the Christmas season. This year has gone by faster than any other year of my life, I’m 100% convinced. I used to think that as a teacher, my year was perfectly segmented into three parts…August to December meant back to school and the march toward Christmas break. Then January to May was the countdown to the end of the school year. Then June and July was that sweet spot of the year, summer vacation. It absolutely made the year slip by quickly.
This year seems to have gone by even faster. Usually I can kickstart the Christmas season immediately after Thanksgiving, but last Friday, I just couldn’t. The local radio station I listen to has already transitioned to all Christmas music, but I haven’t listened to any yet. I also haven’t indulged in any Christmas movies. Which is why I have picked a Christmas movie for the quote this week. It’s my absolute favorite two lines from the movie “Christmas Vacation”. It’s not my favorite Christmas movie, but it’s definitely in my top 5.
And it goes like this:
“And why is the carpet all wet, Todd?”
“I don’t know, Margo.”
But it’s the way those lines are delivered that really makes it the best scene.

I so badly want to order the his and her sweatshirts with these quotes on it for my husband and me.
I’m sure if I scrolled the cable channels tonight I can find this movie playing on one of them. Maybe that’s what I need to watch to get in the spirit.
At the very least, I got our Christmas tree out of its box and assembled it. Tomorrow I’ll drag the other bags and boxes of decorations down from the attic. I packed up the fall decor this weekend in preparation. Honestly, I think once I throw the lights on the tree the first time (or ask Alexa to turn them on), I’ll feel more festive.
I’ll report back…
