With it being Flashback Friday, let me honor not a story from my past, but rather, the memory of past movies of this icon we lost today:

Any child of the 80s and 90s knows Catherine O’Hara.

Her most famous roles were Kate McCallister and Delia Deetz from “Home Alone” and “Beetlejuice” respectively.

Though I was very much a fan of the first two Home Alone movies (and Beetlejuice), it was her role as Cookie in “Best in Show” in the 90s that I consider my 2nd favorite.

My absolute favorite performance of hers though, was of course, as Moira Rose of Schitt’s Creek.

I loved that show. And with her passing today, I think it’s time for a rewatch. With the “bomb cyclone” of a storm we’re supposed to get this weekend, it’ll be the perfect opportunity to do some binge-watching.

She was such a genuine person and great at every role she played. This is the death of a celebrity that actually hits me kind of hard. Especially since she wasn’t that old. Only 71 I believe.

What’s even more heart-breaking is what Macaulay Culkin posted about her today:

What an icon she was. Lots of people on Threads are consoled knowing she’s probably rejoicing with her Home Alone costar, John Candy right about now. We hope so anyway.

  1. Reading this made me gasp… I’d been so busy today with all the shenanigans at work, I’ve not had any time to even read the news blips that were populating to my phone about a few current events. I cannot believe this; not Catherine O’Hara! She was such a beast on the big screen, and I truly enjoyed her as Moira Rose in Schitt’s Creek, too. I think that was her best role, ever. Her facial expressions, her witty comebacks, her outifts, the list can go on.

What’s wild is that I always thought, Macaulay Culkin could be her son in real life. I know this hit him hard. Gone too soon; truly gone too soon.

    1. Yes! I was busy too but my sister texted me and said she was going to send me a Schitt’s creek gif but she wasn’t going to because she had died. That’s how I found out. Ugh! And don’t forget that ridiculous accent Moira had that was just so perfect! I wonder how Eugene Levy is doing. She and him go way way back. I heard the whole cast of that show was pretty close. I don’t even know what happened to her, just that she’s gone.

      1. Yes, the news outlets are saying that her cause of death has not been disclosed, but only she was sick for a brief period before her death. Some things can just be left unsaid. It’s so heartbreaking just to know she’s no longer alive.

      2. Absolutely! No need to hear the 911 call like some news puts out. It’s like with Rob Reiner, just the awful way he went is terrible, let alone the fact that he’s gone.

  2. OMG…I started reading this and stopped to call my sister to tell her. So crazy. Loved her. She will be missed.

    1. She really will! Such a great actress!

Middle-aged Maverick is indeed middle-aged and she’s proud of it. She has a tendency to over think and over analyze many of the things she encounters in her life, as evidenced in many of her posts. She knows how to drive a stick-shift car, prefers Coke over Pepsi, and spent many of her adolescent years being obsessed with Jim Carrey.
