What are the biggest benefits of minimalist living?

I’m not a fan of minimalist living so I’m not sure that there are benefits, let alone big ones. To be fair, I do see minimalism as a good thing for some people. It’s probably nice to not have a home cluttered with stuff. I appreciate the time after I clean and straighten rooms in our house. I like things being in their place and any items that don’t belong out in the open being put back where they’re supposed to go. I get a little antsy and anxious if the clutter sits out for too long. Minimalist living would probably be great for my anxiety!

But that’s the thing…while I like putting things in their place, I still have a lot of things that have places to go. And I like that. I am defintiely someone who appreciates having a collection of books, yarn, pens, and whatever else strikes my fancy. My husband is the same way. He has quite a collection of fishing rods and all the reels and lures and other accessories. We are people who go hard when we get into a hobby. We acquire all the things necessary and/or unnecessary. I don’t think it’s a bad thing. We mostly have the space for all of our things. Coming from apartment living, I definitely appreciate having a house to spread out in.

Bottom line, minimalism is good for some people, I can see the appeal, but it’s just not for me. I know I can’t take it with me, but I do enjoy all my stuff.

Middle-aged Maverick is indeed middle-aged and she’s proud of it. She has a tendency to over think and over analyze many of the things she encounters in her life, as evidenced in many of her posts. She knows how to drive a stick-shift car, prefers Coke over Pepsi, and spent many of her adolescent years being obsessed with Jim Carrey.
