Daily writing prompt
What’s a simple pleasure in life that brings you joy?

I feel like a question regarding simple joys has been asked before and I’m pretty sure I may have answered it. Regardless, my thoughts on the question are all focused on the fact that I am definitely a simple joys kind of person. I don’t need anything complicated to make me happy.

The first few things that come to mind for me that make me happy are:

  • Sitting outside (when the weather isn’t too hot of course)—I have really come to enjoy sitting in the backyard under our magnolia tree while our dogs run around playing. Been doing this since we moved in four years ago and I still enjoy it.
  • Sleep—Lately, I have been getting up early to go running, but on the days that I allow myself to sleep in, it’s glorious! That is, when my cat, Faye, settles down and leaves me alone long enough. She has been pretty restless lately at night and often gets up and moves around anytime Josh or I moves. It wakes us up and has gotten quite annoying.
  • Knitting/crocheting—For a newbie, this hobby is probably not simple, but for me it is (well, depending on the complexity of the pattern I’m making). It makes me very happy to just be sitting and repetitively working the stitches.
  • Good food—I married a foodie. Good food is like knitting, can be simple or complex depending on what you make, but the act of sitting down to a meal and eating is such a good part of life.

I’m sure there are other things that I could think of. And this prompt did ask about only one thing, so I’ll keep my list brief and close with one of the rules from the movie “Zombieland”—Enjoy the little things.

Middle-aged Maverick is indeed middle-aged and she’s proud of it. She has a tendency to over think and over analyze many of the things she encounters in her life, as evidenced in many of her posts. She knows how to drive a stick-shift car, prefers Coke over Pepsi, and spent many of her adolescent years being obsessed with Jim Carrey.
