“Something Good” Sunday

There have been several good things that happened this week. We started working in-person at my job and I have enjoyed being in the office with my coworkers. They’re a hoot. I’ve been going to the gym and walking/running on the treadmill. It’s actually a harder workout on that than road running. I tend to walk a lot slower when I’m going through my neighborhood. It’s hard to make myself walk faster. On the treadmill I can just push the button to up the speed and incline and get a good workout just from walking. I do still interject intervals of running.

I also paid the deposit for my next tattoo appointment on June 19th. No longer just a touch up appointment, the artist is going full throttle on filling in the gaps on my right arm with more crocheted flowers. Josh helped me decide on the locations to put the extra flowers and what positions they should be in. I’m nervous about the appointment because this is the artist who really layers the outlining and shading and all the things, which means he goes back and forth across the same spot multiple times. I don’t know that I’ll be able to handle doing all this in one appointment. But, we’ll see. Here’s one of the inspiration pictures:

Marigolds–so chosen because they’re orange, but also because I have fond memories of planting marigolds with my grandmother when I was a kid.

However, the good thing I really want to focus on today is less something that happened and more something that is not happening right now and that is, I am not spending this weekend anxiously anticipating the start of the kids summer program I supervised last year. It starts on June 1st, i.e. tomorrow. This program kept me insanely busy last summer. I worked a ton of extra hours and had very little time to even sit down and rest during the work day. It was stressful. It was chaotic. And I don’t have to do it again this year. When I knew I was going to quit my most recent job, I was determined to leave before the summer program started. Thankfully I was able to do that.

The program made the summer go by super fast, which is not necessarily a bad thing. But I’m looking forward to this summer where it’s much slower. I’ll be able to enjoy the summer holidays. On June 22, Josh and I will do something to celebrate our anniversary. It’s not a milestone anniversary, but it’ll mark 26 years since our first date and 13 years since we got married. We are now going to be married longer than we were dating/engaged. In July, it’ll be my birthday. Again, not a milestone, but a birthday nonetheless. We have tickets to a 4th of July baseball game in town which will be fun. There’s also a baseball game at the end of July that will be related to my job. A lot of people from work will be going so we will too.

Lots of fun things to look forward to this summer and I’m so happy that I’ll be able to take Ferris Bueller’s advice about slowing down and looking around so I don’t miss anything. This summer will not be moving pretty fast. And for that, I am thankful.

Middle-aged Maverick is indeed middle-aged and she’s proud of it. She has a tendency to over think and over analyze many of the things she encounters in her life, as evidenced in many of her posts. She knows how to drive a stick-shift car, prefers Coke over Pepsi, and spent many of her adolescent years being obsessed with Jim Carrey.
