Screenshot Saturday
My favorite meme? As in, just one? How in the world am I supposed to narrow it down to just one??? A more realistic question is, what are your favorite memes? But I’ll play by the rules today. In fact, I can fit this into my usual Screenshot Saturday category because one of the memes that is definitely a favorite of mine, has existed as a screenshot in my phone since June 17, 2021. So it’s been a while.
As a knitter/crocheter, the accuracy of this meme is astounding. Quite funny actually. I have a yarn closet. As in, a closet in our office/creative space that is filled with bins full of yarn. I have slowed down on buying yarn lately because I’ve been more focused on writing and making content to post online. But back when yarn projects were a priority, I would buy yarn because it’s pretty, or it’s soft, or it kind of matched another yarn I had so that meant I could make a bigger project. I very rarely bought yarn because I had an actual project in mind. That always kind of irritated me when I would walk into a yarn store and the employee would ask me what project I had in mind. I’d usually tell them I didn’t have a project and was just looking for something pretty to add to my stash. They always understood that.
Speaking of yarn from my stash, let me share with you what I just made with yarn from my stash. I posted about my Harry Styles desk goose project…where I plan to replicate four of Harry Style’s most iconic outfits in yarn so that my oh so young supervisor could have them for the desk goose that lives on her desk at work. I started with this outfit:
I had a mini-skeing of shiny grey yarn that I used. But I ran out before I could finish the body and get to any of the arms. So, I dug through my stash. Or, really, scrolled through my stash listings on Ravelry and found that I had another skein of grey yarn that would work. This grey was a little darker than the original, hopefully it’s not as obvious as I think it is.
So I used my stash yarn to make the first oufit. I ordered a package of Christmas tree tinsel from Amazon and spent two crafting sessions attaching a bunch of tinsel to the outfit with a crochet hook. I am going to be finding little pieces of tinsel in my living room for a while!
I also used some white craft felt to make hands for the goose. Since there’s sleeves on the outfit, there needs to be hands.
Having said all of that, I give you, outfit number one in the Harry Styles Desk Goose Collection:
I felt like those Hollywood fashion designers making this particular outfit. You know how the celebrities on the red carpet talk about “who they’re wearing” and they say something about how each rhinestone was sewn on one-by-one by hand? You can imagine how tedious that must have been. I kind of felt the same way attaching all the tinsel. Granted, once I got the hang of it with the crochet hook, it went a lot faster. But still. I also think I could have maybe put more tinsel on there, but I was pretty done by this point. I couldn’t have the living room fan on while I worked on this because it blew the tinsel every which way. So I got pretty hot working on this without the fan. It was 100 degrees yesterday…I needed the fan.
All in all, I’m pretty satisfied with how this one came out. Last night I started on the pink and white fur coat. I actually have a scathingly brilliant idea for this one. It’s going to be awesome!
I will be as excited as Harry in this picture if I can pull it off. Stay tuned…
