Daily writing prompt
What is one way you have grown this year?

I’m glad this prompt today narrows growth to this year because I have written at great length about how I’ve grown over the past two years. The six months of this year have still seen growth in me. I’m not done yet. I am, however, growing in ways that are different from how I initially started. Actually, now that I think about it, this year I am seeing more “fruits” of my personal growth journey. Perhaps I really have stalled on the growth and am just relishing the life I’ve created because of what I’ve done so far.

Here’s what I mean by that…my growth journey started when I got up the courage to quit a toxic job. Since then, I have developed rock solid boundaries and coincidentally also started perimenopause. Those two things combined have made the first half of this year very interesting. The boundaries I worked hard to cultivate and maintain (mixed with some perimenopause rage) helped me to decide to leave my job. I wouldn’t necessarily call it a toxic job. But I definitely got tired of dealing with the few toxic people that were a daily part of my work experience. And the thing is, I did not hesitate to quit that job. I did, however, wait until I got hired somewhere else before quitting. So I persevered in applying for whatever job I thought I could reasonably do and landed my current job which is honestly, my great reward for suffering through my last job. Complete night and day difference! I am still thanking God for this new job. It’s perfect in every conceivable way! Ugh! How did I get so lucky?! Even as I type that I know I got lucky because I suffered through enough to get here. This is truly a reward for surviving all that I did at my past jobs.

I think that’s a good place to end this too. My growth may have slowed down…I mean, there’s only so much growing you can do. But like I said, I’m experiencing the benefits that come with the changes and improvements I’ve made to myself.

P.S. To piggyback onto all the raving I did about my new job, here is the 3rd Harry Styles outfit for my supervisor’s desk goose to wear. Which proves, my new job is so good that I am willing to torture myself making her desk goose glamorous apparel. And yes, this last outfit was torture. I hate how it came out. It is my least favorite. I tried to do it the easy way and I truly do not like it. But the purple fur scarf makes up for it. Also, nobody at Staples judged me out loud for bringing in glossy photos from the internet of Harry Styles to laminate. I’m sure they have seen weirder.

  1. I am also learning the joys of perimenopause. It’s a cruel trick to play on us. I’m glad you set boundaries for yourself and got out of that toxic job. I’ve done this before..it’s always nice to feel appreciated again at a new job that supports you! Great read!

  3. The outfit turned out fabulous! ✨ Your perseverance really paid off. šŸ‘ And it’s truly a blessing to find another job where you don’t have to constantly navigate workplace minefields.

Middle-aged Maverick is indeed middle-aged and she’s proud of it. She has a tendency to over think and over analyze many of the things she encounters in her life, as evidenced in many of her posts. She knows how to drive a stick-shift car, prefers Coke over Pepsi, and spent many of her adolescent years being obsessed with Jim Carrey.
