“Something Good” Sunday

Thirteen years ago today, Josh and I had our rehearsal dinner at a little Greek restaurant in our city called Zorba’s. They are owned and operated by a local Greek family and serve popular Greek dishes. The ones we always get are the gyros with everything and the spanakopita, which, for the longest time, I couldn’t pronounce so I just called it spank-yo-pita. Fast forward to this afternoon when Josh and I went to lunch at a different Greek restaurant. One that is in a different city and is much fancier than our little diner of a place here.

Tomorrow is our anniversary, but Mondays don’t make good celebration days unless you have the day off, which we don’t. So we celebrated today. I wore my wedding dress to lunch. It is just a simple summery white cotton dress from J.C. Penney. I was heavier when we got married so to make the dress fit my somewhat more slender frame now, I added a belt to it.

The food we ate was probably more authentic than what we get at our place, but honestly, when all was said and done (and eaten), we both agreed that we liked the cheaper versions at the place near where we live.

But, this place had sangria (not the best) and we sat on the upstairs patio along the edge so we could see the people walking by below. There was a nice breeze, which was good because I had to keep my long sleeved sweater on so I didn’t gross anybody out with my new tattoos that are beginning to dry out and scab (still super annoyingly painful–I’m not looking forward to going back in 3 weeks).

As we ate (and waited to eat), we talked about the future and things relevant to what’s going on in our lives now. We also tried to avoid making eye contact with our former family physician who just retired and who we have beef with because he wasn’t a very good doctor. He’s Greek and wouldn’t you know it? He was at a table not far from us. He didn’t see us. If he did, I don’t think he would recognize us as people he knows.

It was a beautiful day, a beautiful meal, and a beautiful 26 years together with Josh. (We were together for 13 years before we got married and it’s been 13 years since our wedding). To be fair, it wasn’t always beautiful. But as we reminisced today, we are in a place in both of our lives now where we have learned from it all, we have matured, we have survived, and that puts us in a really good place for things we may or may not want to do in the future. And that is definitely something good to celebrate today.

  1. Happy anniversary!!!! That is such a cute pic of you guys, love it!!!!

    1. Thank you so much!

  2. What are the odds that your family physician is eating at the same place – I hate when that happens especially when you did not have a good experience with that person at all 😂
    Happy anniversary!!

    1. Thanks! I guess because he’s Greek and it was a fancy Greek restaurant and Father’s Day? But definitely a “what are the odds moment”!
