The technology of today is pretty great, excluding AI, that is pretty scary. So many modern conveniences now that didn’t exist when I was a teenager. How different would my teen years have been had there been iphones, gps, digital streaming? But back then, I didn’t miss what I didn’t know. Those things were not a “thing” yet, so I used what I had.
Here’s the thing though, the technology I miss is not something I would voluntarily go back to using. I like the modern replacements.
For example, I really loved the cordless phone I had in my bedroom. I had my own phone line complete with my own answering machine.

I’d love to go back to the trend of things being made out of colored transparent material. So cool! But would I go back to having a landline just so I could have this phone again? Absolutely not. I’m good with my cell phone being the only phone I use.
The thing that I miss the most though, is my stereo:

This is the one I had, though mine had two additional surround sound speakers and a remote. I wrote about this when I posted about my 16th birthday. That’s when I received it as a gift from my sisters. I loved this thing! It had a 3 c.d. changer, dual tape deck, and a radio (obviously). The remote was the best thing about it. I could lay in bed and skip songs or skip c.d.s, or play a cassette, or switch to listening to the radio. Whatever my listening needs were at the time, this stereo was there to meet those needs. But, like with the phone, would I trade my bluetooth speaker and Apple Music subscription for one of these? Absolutely not. In fact, Josh has a speaker system in our attic. The kind where there’s multiple pieces connected together that you need a legit stereo cabinet for. But it’s like my stereo here, only tapes, c.d.s, and radio. If it had bluetooth, I would set it back up. A bluetooth speaker is good and all, especially the Bose one I have, but his stereo had some legit box speakers with incredible sound.
Outdated technology is outdated because something better came along to replace it. I am a touch paranoid that one day the internet is going to crash for good. If there’s still electricity, we’ll have to rely on physical media again. But, until then, I am going to enjoy the digital offerings as long as possible.
