What’s a moment when a stranger completely restored your faith in people?

I had something in mind that I wanted to discuss today and this question sort of relates to it. I’m going to change the second part of the question to make it fit. My question is: What’s a moment when a stranger completely proved your point?

The stranger I’m thinking of is a cashier at a local grocery store Josh and I go to semi-regularly. We don’t do our big shopping there because it’s the Fresh Market, similar to Whole Foods. We go there if there’s one or two specific things we need and we want them to be good quality. Anyway, I had an interaction with this cashier when I stopped by there after work last Friday and when I stopped in quickly Monday night.

Before I get into my point and how he proved it, here are some fun facts about people with tattoos. I’ve seen these mentioned on social media and I’d like to think there are statistics to back up the data. Even without statistics, one of the facts was proven by this cashier.

  1. People with very visible tattoos are less likely to be kidnapped because the tattoos make them more identifiable.
  2. People with tattoos don’t have to worry about their image being digitally manipulated online because A.I. can’t process and replicate tattoos very well. It would be very obvious that the image/video is fake.
  3. Jeffrey Dahmer said he avoided people with tattoos because they tasted bad.

So, right there are three reasons to get tattoos…you’ll be safe from kidnappers, A.I. deep fakes, and cannibals. Although, a quick Google search tells me the thing about Jeffrey Dahmer isn’t true and it’s just an internet joke. Bummer.

Anyway, the cashier at the Fresh Market proved point number 1. On Friday, I was wearing a short-sleeved shirt. As he was ringing up my items and I was checking out, he said he liked my tattoos. He asked if I was into botany. I lifted up my right arm to show the yarn ball and crochet hook and I told him that I was into crochet because the flowers are supposed to look crocheted. He then said, “That’s sick!” But, you know, in a good way.

When I went back on Monday, I was also in a short-sleeved shirt and since his register was the only one open, I went through it again. He said he remembered me from my crocheted flowers. Then he asked follow up questions, like if I had gotten them done here in town. I told him where I had been going lately. I swear I’m not going through his line the next time we go. He’s going to make it weird next time, I swear.

But, he proved my point! Or, at least point number 1 on my tattoo list. If I had gone through his line on Monday and my tattoos weren’t visible, he wouldn’t have recognized me from Friday. But he did! Because of my tattoos! So if I ever go missing, the media just needs to put out there what kind of tattoos I have. People will be able to easily say, “Oh yeah! I saw that woman! I knew it was her because of her tattoos!” And then I’ll be found quickly. Or I might not be taken at all, because I have a lot of tattoos!

Thank you borderline creepy cashier at the Fresh Market, your interest in my tattoos proved what I’ve always heard, that us heavily tattooed people are less likely to be kidnapped. (Though, I’m not technically “heavily” tattooed. At least not according to people online who are actually heavily tattooed. I don’t have enough yet).

Obligatory picture of the crocheted flowers in question (or…some of them. They’re not all visible in this picture):

      1. I know right. There is a great meme of Hannibal Lector and the original clown from the movie IT with Tim Currey. Hannibal says I hate clowns. The clown asks why and Hannibal says they taste funny 😁 😂 😀

      2. 🤣😂Good one!

Middle-aged Maverick is indeed middle-aged and she’s proud of it. She has a tendency to over think and over analyze many of the things she encounters in her life, as evidenced in many of her posts. She knows how to drive a stick-shift car, prefers Coke over Pepsi, and spent many of her adolescent years being obsessed with Jim Carrey.
