Daily writing prompt
If you had a time machine and could send just one message to your past self, what would it say?

I’ve seen questions like this posted on Threads. Quite frequently actually. Although this is very similar to the prompt we had earlier, the one where I would tell my past self the winning lottery numbers for a jackpot big enough to make the news. I think this time though, I would be very simple and direct in my message. Regardless of how far into the past we’re going to be meeting my self, the message will be the same and just as profound. And the message is: It gets better. That’s it. My life right now is the best it has ever been. Up until two years ago, a sliver of hope that my life will improve would have been refreshing. This isn’t just a generic, “Cheer up.” Or “God won’t give you anything you can’t handle”. Or some other advice meant to give me hope. Hearing from my future self that life gets better would be undeniable proof that it really does get better. That there is a definitive time in the future where I am not suffering as much as whatever point in time the message is received. Teenage Sarah would benefit from hearing it just as much as 42 year old Sarah would. Even if she doesn’t know how or why life gets better, just knowing things improve would be enough to hold her over until things actually do.

**The reference to the Hamilton lyric in my post is unintentional. The use of it in the title of my post is absolutely intentional.

Middle-aged Maverick is indeed middle-aged and she’s proud of it. She has a tendency to over think and over analyze many of the things she encounters in her life, as evidenced in many of her posts. She knows how to drive a stick-shift car, prefers Coke over Pepsi, and spent many of her adolescent years being obsessed with Jim Carrey.
