Sometimes on Threads, there will be a post where somebody asks what celebrity death caused us to cry actual tears. I’ve never had an answer for that because until yesterday, it was nobody. Ask me again today.
What celebrity death brought you to tears?
Dolly Parton.
There aren’t enough things that can be said about what a genuinely good person she was. Losing her is a tremendous loss.
I only saw one of her movies. “Steel Magnolias” obviously.

I didn’t even listen to much of her music other than her biggest hits, “Islands in the Stream” with Kenny Rogers, “Jolene”, and “I Will Always Love You”.
But all the things she did outside of her music and acting is truly profound.
My grandmother took me to Dollywood in 1990, I think it was. Dollywood opened in 1986 so it was still fairly new when we went. I don’t know what happened to the photo albums my grandmother had of our trips. I fear my mother has them and as such, I won’t ever get them back. But I remember the trip. And I remember what the pictures were of.
Watching the news coverage last night did actually bring me to tears. Even Betty White’s death didn’t make me cry.
Today, I’m wearing black out of respect, with the most sparkly jewelry I have. In the video her nephew put out announcing her passing, he said that she told him she wanted to be laid to rest in soft, pillowy cotton because after a lifetime of wearing heavy rhinestones, she wanted to finally rest.
May she truly rest in peace.
