Scrolling through my camera roll just now, I came across this gem that I saved back in 2022:

It struck me because while it is 100% accurate, I have a new percentage to add to this.

I’d say another 10% of marriage is asking your husband or wife, did you see that reel I just sent you? Josh and I used to just hand our phones to each other if we wanted to show each other a reel. Now, we’ve upgraded to sending them to each other. When he sends me one, I tend to type a reply to it. Which he doesn’t see. Hence the, “Did you see the reel I sent you?” questions.

Lately, most of the reels he has been sending me are from a guy who makes videos for husbands dealing with a wife going through perimenopause. I suppose Josh finds them relatable or something because I am in fact going through perimenopuase and sometimes, it sucks for the both of us. However, these reels are one-sided apparently. I happened to come across a video from the guy in my feed and sent it to Josh. His response to me via text was, and I quote: “You need to stop trolling my perimenopause accounts. It’s a fraternity. You’re not invited.” That got a good laugh out of me. Fair enough. There are plenty of women who also make vidoes on the topic, so I suppose I’ll stick with those. For now.

  1. This really made me chuckle. The idea that “10% of marriage is asking your husband or wife, did you see that reel I just sent you?” is so spot on, it’s almost painful. It’s amazing how these new ways of sharing things can create their own little communication quirks, even when you’re right there together. And Josh’s “fraternity” comment about his perimenopause accounts is just brilliant. It sounds like you both have a good sense of humor about navigating these phases, which is probably the best approach. Thanks for sharing this relatable moment.

    1. Thank you for reading! 😃

  2. I do this every so often because if I pause for a moment Neil is gone. I am looking aisle after aisle and when I finally call him? He is right behind me lurking to see if I would turn around…lol

    1. Husbands. I swear. Lol!

  3. You are very welcome. It is always nice when a stranger connects over a shared quirk. I find that the “did you see that reel” moment often happens because we are too busy curating our digital lives to notice the person sitting right next to us. It is a funny reminder that technology can sometimes make us less present in the very rooms where we live.
