How do you waste the most time every day?

Social media! I waste so much time scrolling through reels and videos and reading posts on pages that I don’t even follow on Facebook. It’s entertaining for sure. And honestly, it’s a good distraction, especially when I was so stressed from work and grad school, it was nice to zone out and watch cat videos and other like things. It was especially nice to come across a video that I would watch on repeat and laugh harder every time I watched it. But why is this such an attractive thing for me to do? I’m of a generation before the internet. Shouldn’t I know how to waste my time more productively than staring at a screen? I mean, I am a knitter/crocheter. I love reading books. I have so many other hobbies! And yet I can waste the most time scrolling on my phone. Or, on the flip side, having not grown up with the internet, is it that “shiny and new” kind of thing where now that I have been introduced to the fun of social media, I really enjoy it because I didn’t have that and now that I do it’s so fun? Honestly, I’m 100% sure I’m reading too much into it and analyzing something that isn’t deep enough to really need an analysis. Cat videos are funny. Engaging with other people from Gen-X on Facebook is fun. I have a lot of free time right now. It is what it is.

  1. I agree….most of us struggling with social media. I use it as a time to wind down after long day of work. (that’s my excuse.) honestly, I waste time their out of boredom, not finding what to do. I should be doing something more productive, I say to myself….but what?

    1. Productivity is overrated, lol! I think we all need that down time, especially given how taxing jobs can be these days.

Middle-aged Maverick is indeed middle-aged and she’s proud of it. She has a tendency to over think and over analyze many of the things she encounters in her life, as evidenced in many of her posts. She knows how to drive a stick-shift car, prefers Coke over Pepsi, and spent many of her adolescent years being obsessed with Jim Carrey.
