Flashback Friday
Today I’m flashing back to June 2, 2021. I took this picture from my spot on the couch in our old apartment. Summer break had just started and I was trying to finish watching Friends all the way through for the first time. It’s funny that this particular episode is the one I captured. The one where Ross has every reason not to be fine, but at the beginning stands in the doorway of Joey and Rachel’s apartment proclaiming that he’s fine, complete with a squeaky voice and everything. He then gets really drunk on some margaritas.

On June 2, 2021, I had just started my summer break after teaching the first year post-covid. Actually, covid was still going on, but that was the school year after the initial shut downs when my school was both in-person and virtual at the same time. We were all exceptionally exhausted by the time we got to summer break. Way more worn out than the usual end-of-the-year “teacher tired”.
I no longer have a summer break to look forward to but I am still looking forward to the summer. It still feels weird to work during June and July, but I’m curious what a regular job is like during those months. I either had those months off or seriously reduced office hours. Last year I had an intensely crazy busy time at my job that was actually pretty stressful while I was there every day. Running a summer kids program is not for the faint of heart. I am very grateful that I found a new job before I had to do that again. My job this year may have some busy days during the summer, but it won’t be the whole two months. It should just be a regular schedule of doing typical daily work. I’m very much looking forward to it.
To my readers who are teachers, hang in there! Today is the start of May and that means the countdown to summer break is well underway (unintentional rhyming there). If you’re like I was, the last month of school was always the hardest and most challenging to get through. Here’s hoping it goes by quickly so that you can get to that much deserved time off! You can do it!
