Have you ever performed on stage or given a speech?
One of my college classes was Public Speaking. I can’t remember if I had to take that for my English concentration or my education major. Either way, I gave a lot of speeches in that class. But not as many as I gave as a teacher and school principal. When you’re in a classroom full of kids, you are always performing and giving speeches. You’re always on. As a principal, there were many times that I had to get up in front of a school assembly, whether it was an assembly of students or parents or both. As the chair of the church’s pastoral council, I had to get up in front of the congregation and speak at various times. I got used to it. I’m good at thinking on my feet and don’t need a script to go by. Just a good idea of what I want to say and a few notes. Even though I was fairly good at public speaking and could do it with ease, I’m glad I don’t have to do it anymore. I’m content to have a job where leading a graduation ceremony once a year is all I have to do.
