What’s a job you would like to do for just one day?

I spent a great deal of time last summer thinking about a job that I would like to do. Honestly, I loved job searching! It was the first time in my life I let myself think about doing something other than being a teacher. So many other choices out there! Although, my choices were somewhat narrowed given what my education and employment history was. Some jobs I could have probably been good at but I just didn’t appear to have the qualifications. And some jobs looked amazing and I would have loved them, but the pay and/or benefits weren’t good. For example, I so badly wanted to apply to work the front counter at a local tattoo shop, but if I remember correctly, it was only part time and no benefits.

With this question today, I have a counter question…can I pick which specific day I do that job? If I can be that nitpicky about when I do the job, I will say that I want to be an usher at whatever that big theater is in Los Angeles where the Academy Awards are held each year. And I really want to be an usher on the day of the Oscar ceremony.

Can you imagine?! “Hey Sarah! We need you to show Ryan Gosling to his seat, and hurry up, he’s up here waiting for you!”

I would get to hob knob with celebrities for a day, well, an evening! To be fair, there probably wouldn’t be much hob knobbing with an usher. There would be more of that between each other. However, I could go home and watch a movie and tell my friends, “Oh yeah, I met him”. I could even add, “I met her but she’s really not that nice in real life.” I feel like that would be a real possibility too. I would see what they’re really like. As a movie fan, I don’t know that I would like to have the curtain pulled back on the people I see in my favorite movies. Which is why it’s probably a good idea that this is only for a day. Anybody can chalk a less than pleasant experience up to someone just having a bad day. But if it was something I did multiple times, I might find out who really is just a jerk.

Although, I’m fairly awkward in unfamiliar situations and around new people. At least, I feel that way. I would probably be so nervous and awestruck on my one-day Oscar ushering job that I would easily fill my head with cringey encounters with stars that will haunt me forever. That would be my luck. But it would be good writing fodder for the future!

Middle-aged Maverick is indeed middle-aged and she’s proud of it. She has a tendency to over think and over analyze many of the things she encounters in her life, as evidenced in many of her posts. She knows how to drive a stick-shift car, prefers Coke over Pepsi, and spent many of her adolescent years being obsessed with Jim Carrey.
