Dogs or cats?
While I am a cat person deep down and always have been, my dogs don’t know that. I love them as much as I love my cats. We have two of each and there is absolutely no peaceful co-existing between them. We are truly a house divided. Literally. We have baby gates up throughout the house. The dogs get the living room, dining room, kitchen, back hallway, and back bedroom. Basically most of the house. You have to go through those rooms to get to the door to the backyard. The cats get the master bedroom up front, the hallway area and the bathroom—which is perfect for Nugget because she’s obsessed with fresh water.
The coexistence is not peaceful because Nugget hisses and growls at the dogs, like so:

And the dogs respond accordingly with a much louder and deeper growl. She ought to know by now not to growl and hiss at them because it makes her kitty asthma flair up and she spends a few minutes coughing and wheezing afterwards.
My tuxedo girl, Faye, just wants to be friends with them. Honestly, she just wants to be in the same room as I am but she can’t because the dogs get so excited around her. Not aggressive excited, just, “yay! New friend!” excited. Faye is creeping up on her 19th birthday, she’s too old and frail to be fending off excited dogs. In fact, ChatGPT recently showed me what Faye would look like as a human, and this little old lady doesn’t need to be putting up with hyper dogs. (fyi-I made all the animals into humans and I think Ethan and Millie are spot on).

Dogs and cats are just lovable companions (except Nugget), I love them both equally (even though some of them are harder to love than others cough cough Nugget). No judgment here if you prefer one over the other. My husband is definitely a dog person, and I married him anyway.
