Epic cooking fails—On this exact date last year this prompt came up. I answered it and now I can’t answer it again according to the “answer prompt” thing to click on. Last year I wrote about the time I tried to make cup o’noodles in the microwave without adding water because in all the years I watched my father make them, I never saw him add water.

This time, I was tempted to be snarky with my answer and talk about my father’s cooking fail where he was standing at the stove with a hot dog bun in his hand waiting to put a freshly boiled hot dog in it. When he did, our dog jumped up and snatched it out of his hand. But his reaction to the dog is on the list of things he did that created a traumatic childhood for me. I don’t want to emphasize that today.

It has already been a challenging day as I have had to go back and forth talking to people from a life insurance company and my old job. Apparently I am just now finding out about a pension that I have with the old job. They sold it to a company to manage and sent me a bunch of information related to that transfer. I didn’t get any of that because they were sending it to an address that is at least 7 years old. It has made me quite angry knowing that I still have a connection to the old place through a pension I can’t apparently do anything about until I’m 65. As my husband put it, it’s like a 6-degrees of separation/Kevin Bacon situation that is not worthy of all this emotion. Maybe it’s just a trigger. And it probably is. It’s a reminder that I still have some healing to do. I don’t know why it even angers me. I left the old job because of one woman, not the whole company. But that company held her in high regard and made sure that I would be stuck with her had I stayed, so I guess it all connects.

With all of that said, I’m trying to come down from this angry lunch break I had dealing with them. Trying to see that it’s not a bad thing to have a pension with them. When I retire, that’ll be two places I have money coming from in my old age. It’ll be nice. $151 dollars a month from my old job could buy me lots of cup o’noodle soups, that I will absolutely remember to put water in before I microwave it.

Middle-aged Maverick is indeed middle-aged and she’s proud of it. She has a tendency to over think and over analyze many of the things she encounters in her life, as evidenced in many of her posts. She knows how to drive a stick-shift car, prefers Coke over Pepsi, and spent many of her adolescent years being obsessed with Jim Carrey.
