“Something Good” Sunday
Today is Mother’s Day. Never a good day for me. I’m a daughter whose mother is still alive but I have chosen not to talk to her anymore. I am also a wife unable to have children of my own. Josh and I went out to breakfast because the knobs on our stove are acting weird and it was challenging to get the good burner to even turn on so he could cook breakfast. We opted to go out instead. I was wished a “Happy Mother’s Day” at least 3 times at the place we went to. This is in addition to the cashier at the store yesterday and the nail tech at the place where I got a pedicure on Friday. I’d like to just go ahead and skip over this day if I could.
However, there was something good that happened today and after a week where I really haven’t felt good physically or mentally, what I did this morning was amazing.
And that amazing thing is that I went running.

I have missed running. Some people are runners but hate running. They do it because it’s good exercise, but they just don’t like it. I love it. I got some new sports bras from the sporting goods store yesterday when Josh and I went so he could get some new fishing paraphernalia.
I donned my old familiar running clothes this morning and set out on the route that I had established two summers ago. I haven’t run since that summer. I did my best to remind my body that we’re still a runner, and my body in reply, said “No the f*** we’re not!” Yeah, it was a little rough today. I could only do intervals. I ran until my heart rate got up pretty high, then I walked until it came back down. Then I repeated that until I got to a certain point and then just walked the rest of the way home to cool down.
I used to think I needed to find a new route to run because this route takes me through a corner of the campus of the community college where I used to work. In fact, it takes me right around two sides of the office building where I worked. I thought I wouldn’t want to go by there anymore. This morning though? I just didn’t care. It’s a good route.
But I’m happy because I actually got out there. I have been saying for so long that I really want to get back into running. I miss it. I did it today and I’ll do it again tomorrow morning. I plan to get up earlier so I can run and be back with enough time to take a shower before I have to start work. Today it only took me about 30 minutes to complete the path.
Honestly though, part of my motivation for running is because I just want to look like a badass running down the road with all my tattoos hanging out. It makes the exercise that much more fun.
