Y’all are lucky. I was about to make this post about Hamilton, yet again. But I wasn’t going to write about Alexander Hamilton himself, I was going to write about Marquis de Lafayette because the city where I live is named after him. But I’ll spare you since I’ve probably got at least 4 or 5 other posts that reference something Hamilton related.
So instead, today, I’ve got to show love to someone who isn’t necessarily a historical figure like the founding fathers, but he did make life bearable for millions of people in generation after generation that came after him. I, personally, would have a very difficult time in the summer where I live without this person.
Of course I’m referring to Willis Carrier, the guy who invented air conditioning in 1902! I don’t know if he’s truly underrated, but I’m also pretty sure not everybody knows who is responsible for keeping them cool indoors when it’s hot outside.

My quick Google search on him said that he had a really hard time understanding fractions when he was a kid. His mom cut an apple into fractional pieces to help him. He said that was the most important lesson he had ever learned because it taught him the value of “intelligent problem-solving”. So, kudos to his mom for helping him learn fractions in a unique way, because without that, who knows if he would have figured out air conditioning. I’d like to think someone else would have if he hadn’t done it first, but regardless, I’m glad he did.
It’s going to be 90+ degrees here this weekend. In August, it’ll be 90+ degrees and 99% humidity which will make the heat index rise, which will make it feel like over 100 degrees outside. Thanks to Willis Carrier, I’ll be able to stay comfortable inside in that hot, summer nightmare.
