“Something Good” Sunday

There’s been plenty of good things this week. Though I have been feeling a little subdued and melancholy for some reason, it’s still been a good week. My new tattoos have gotten to the flaky, peeling, itchy phase, which is its own kind of sucky, but at least they don’t hurt so bad anymore. I can move my arm, particularly to put my hair in a ponytail without feeling pain. I’m starting to not dread going back on the 10th to get the rest of it done. Though I’m not thrilled about going through the healing process so soon after this one.

I think when reflecting on the week as a whole, today has been a day of lots of good “somethings”. Josh and I began the day with breakfast at IHOP and then our usual Sunday trip to PetSmart to stock up on whatever the pups and Nugget need for the week, usually canned food. But I did decide, once and for all, that I was going to get that mushroom scratching post I’ve seen there all month. Nugget has a super tall cat tree with scratching areas on it, but an extra scratching post wouldn’t hurt, right? I mean, look at it! It’s adorable! Josh asked if I would like the pineapple post instead, and I replied no, our cat is not a swinger, she’s getting the mushroom.

At some point during the day, my package of super long bubble wands got delivered from Amazon. Millie loves to chase and pop bubbles in the backyard. So when I restocked on the little jars of bubbles, I also succumbed to the temptation of the long bubble wand that makes lots of big bubbles.

It was too hot for her to get super excited chasing them. The heat wave that’s expected hasn’t hit us yet. The triple digit temperatures will be here next week. Today though, it’s only in the upper 90s. We didn’t stay outside for very long. And when we did come in, Josh and I split one of those personal watermelons that I put in the fridge yesterday. They were on sale at our local grocery store for $1.88 each. I bought two. The other one will be perfect for one of those 100+ degree days next week. I’m not saying it’s the best thing in the world, but there is something almost religious about coming in from the heat outside and sitting in front of a fan in the living room eating a cold watermelon with a spoon. As my mother-in-law used to say, it “hits the spot.”

All through the day, as I have been sitting outside with the puppies and sitting in the living room waiting on the next load of laundry, I have been captivated by Bob Odenkirk’s memoir. I’ve been a fan of his since we binged Breaking Bad a few years ago. He’s the guy who played Saul Goodman.

He played that role masterfully. And the spin-off—Better Call Saul, has been said to be better than Breaking Bad. Both were very good. But did you know that Bob Odenkirk, despite this drama role, and the 3 movies he’s made lately where he basically plays a serious bad ass, did you know his entire career has been comedy? In fact, he was a writer at SNL for 3 and half years. He wrote the famous Matt Foley sketch that is arguably one of the most iconic sketches ever put on SNL. Matt Foley, of course, being the motivational speaker played by Chris Farley who lives in a van down by the river and is thrice divorced.

The book is really good! I only started it sometime earlier this week and I’m already halfway done with it.

That just means I’ll be ready to read Pride & Prejudice very soon. That book also came in the Amazon package of bubbles. It’s not as thick as I remember. But, true to my word, I’ll read it next. I do like alternating fiction with non-fiction when it comes to choosing books to read. No longer do I have one of each going at the same time.

So all of that is to say, it’s been a good day. Sundays usually are.

Middle-aged Maverick is indeed middle-aged and she’s proud of it. She has a tendency to over think and over analyze many of the things she encounters in her life, as evidenced in many of her posts. She knows how to drive a stick-shift car, prefers Coke over Pepsi, and spent many of her adolescent years being obsessed with Jim Carrey.
