“Something Good” Sunday
Tattoo Day has come and gone. Today is now tattoo “recovery” day. Recovery would be going a lot better if I could stop knocking my leg into hard surfaces. The two pieces I got yesterday are on either side of my calf, which is the perfect level to bang into my bed frame, an ottoman, and to be assaulted by my dog, Millie’s tail.
But! The good thing is, the new artist I went to yesterday was light handed and did not dig down to my bone like the guy who did most of my arm tattoos. The plasma is not as copious and they don’t really hurt at all, except for the random contact with hard objects.
So, without further adieu, here is the first piece:
An homage to my beloved cat, Faye, who passed in June. I named her after Faye Dunaway who was oh so dramatic in the movie “Mommie Dearest”. The “no wire hangers” scene in particular reminded me of Faye’s dramatic wailing on the day I brought her home for the first time. So, there’s a hanger, and Faye’s paw print inside it. When she passed, the vet asked if I wanted them to make paw prints and I knew immediately that I wanted them so I could turn one into a tattoo. I also included rainbow-y flowers in the background to represent the Rainbow Bridge that all pets cross when they depart this world.
I’m giving you two views of this piece because my leg just looks really funny in the finished picture. My calves are weirdly muscular and since I have skinny ankles, my legs look like chicken drumsticks.

A better, less chicken drumstick angle of my leg…

After that came Betty White’s tribute tattoo. It’s an outline of the state of Minnesota because her character on the Golden Girls was famously from Minnesota. Over the area where St. Olaf is actually located, there’s a gold colored rose. Gold for the “Gold”en Girls and rose, because, her character’s name was Rose.

I took a super quick picture before the artist took his own picture and then wrapped it up with saniderm. My picture is a little bloody. Sorry!

I think he did a really good job on the coloring of the rose. I was a little leery at first when he told me how he was going to do it.
Now, having identified that this is the state of Minnesota, let me just say, that in the time since my appointment yesterday, I am almost motivated to go back to being a teacher. A social studies teacher specifically so that I can teach the next generation of young kids all about the U.S. states. And here’s why…my artist thought this was Indiana. My sister who lives in Illinois…LIVES…thought it was Illinois. My good friend from my old job showed this to her mother. Her mother didn’t know what it was. They are FROM Minnesota! Is it just that it’s hard to identify states if they’re not part of the overall country map? Am I unique in that I can identify them when they’re isolated like this? I don’t know, but I have been appalled at the number of adults who didn’t know what that was. However, I know what it is and true Betty White fans would hopefully understand the tribute.
Happy Sunday folks! May the rest of your weekend be what you need it to be. And may I, for the love of puppies and kittens, be more aware of where and how I’m walking so I can finally let my new ink heal in peace.
