What are your favorite side-hustle ideas?
We just had a prompt asking us about business ideas and my idea then was more of a side-hustle, so for this question today, let me tell you about a side hustle that I recently learned my supervisor would like to turn into a reality.
She regaled my coworker and me with a conversation she had with the business manager on staff. Business manager, i.e. the person who manages the finances and purchases. The business manager is on board with her idea. So now, with perhaps a Kickstarter campaign that raises a few million dollars, they can get their idea going.
First, let me preface this by saying she told us of her idea after I said I wanted to punch somebody in the face sometime before I die. I don’t want to get in a fight. I don’t want to be punched first or in return, but I would like to use my fist and just punch someone one good time. It looks so satisfying in the movies. That led to the discussion of her business idea.
She wants to create a space where people can come live out their illegal fantasies in a controlled environment. Want the thrill of robbing a bank? They’ll set up a fake bank set and bring in actors so that you can live out that scenario, you know, without actually going to jail. Want to be kidnapped? They can make that work too. It would be the perfect place for me to punch somebody. They could set up a bar scene, bring in some martial arts fighters who can take a punch, and there you go. I can get in a make-believe bar fight and throw a punch without getting hit back.
We agreed it’s a very niche concept and she would have to have a very good lawyer on staff and a rock-solid release form/waiver that customers would have to sign before they could participate, but how cool would that be? There are places where we live where there’s ax throwing, escape rooms, and maybe even a rage room where you can pay to break stuff. I bet there’d be a market for this kind of thing too. Hey, people have come up with far worse ideas than this in the history of consumerism.
